Zoonosis [zo-uh-NOH-sis] is a disease or parasite that is
transmitted from animals to humans.
Roundworms can affect
eyes, liver and lungs. People
can be infected by licking
dirty fingers, eating without washing hands, etc.		 Hookworms can affect skin, internal organs and intestinal tract. People can be infected by walking barefoot outside, licking fingers, eating without washing hands, etc.

Tips for protecting your family:
. Use a broad-spectrum heartworm product year-round that also protects against zoonotic parasites.
. Promptly collect and dispose of animal feces.
. Instruct children to wash their hands often, especially before eating.
. Always wear shoes when outside.
. Make unprotected sandboxes off-limits to pets and children. Cover sandboxes when not in use.
. Have your veterinarian check your pet's health at least once a year, including a fecal sample analysis.

1 to 3 million people are infected by zoonotic parasites each year in the United States.

Approximately 14% of the United States population has been infected with roundworm (Toxocara spp), a common zoonotic parasite.

Of the 10,000 human cases per year of roundworm infection, 700+ experience permanent or partial loss of vision.
